Speculative Ecologies & Poetic Futures
Biosensors & DIY Sensors
In collaboration with Biodesign for the Real World and the University of Lausanne in 2016 Artists and Biologists met in the Lab to learn from one another. We engineered 3 different biosensors, bacteria that sense mercury, arsenic and zink to fluoresce in the substance's presence. Using the micro-controller Arduino and electronics we designed a portable combined sensor that measures the intensity of the shown fluorescence enabling its user to determine the degree of probe pollution. We tested several water samples from India and the industrial region in Lausanne determining very high degrees of pollution.
Petluv_3000 is developing a curriculum for artists and designers to access the field of microbiology for creative practice.
