Somecrit Series - Styroworm
On Becoming the Other and Consuming the Other," a multi-dimensional project encompassing text, performance, and a unique food tasting experience centered around the enigmatic Styroworm. But what is the Styroworm? It's not just a creature; it's a symbol of transformation and adaptation, mirroring the fascinating abilities of mealworms to mineralize and biologically degrade Styrofoam, while also excreting microplastics. This project challenges conventional notions of humanity, advocating for an anti-anthropocentric perspective that views humans as mere assemblage converters in the grand scheme of existence. Through thought-provoking images of biologically degraded plastic near the human body, we're invited to contemplate the extension of the human form through hybrid matter and additives. Moreover, "On Becoming the Other and Consuming the Other" introduces us to two captivating videos, "somecrit #1" and "somecrit #2," exploring the integration of organisms into wearable technology, fostering coexistence and learning through proximity. The accompanying text advocates for an anti-anthropocentric understanding of humans as mere assemblage converters. Images of these biologically degraded plastic parts near the human body invite contemplation on extending the human body through these additives or transformations of hybrid matter. Encouraging thoughts beyond the human body, two videos about wearables that include organisms to promote and train coexistence and learning through proximity are presented.
